The 2nd Annual Taco Fest, hosted by the Grand River Council on Aging, will take place in Harmony Square on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. Tacos are a favourite dish enjoyed by all ages which makes Taco Fest an excellent outing for the entire family.
When you pay your $5 entry fee you will receive a lanyard with an attached voting card. (Children under 6 eat for free!) After you have made your way around the square, sampling the various choices, you will vote for your favourite taco. Ballot cards and used lanyards can be turned in to the Registration Desk as you leave the square. Votes will be tabulated and the winner will be announced live in Harmony Square at 1:45 p.m.
Van Quach, owner of Burrito Brothers and proud winner of the “People’s Choice Award” at Taco Fest 2017, is pleased to announce his intention to return this year with another tasty sampling of his homemade classic tacos. Also returning, Ryan Devlin of Devlin’s Advocate will serve up another fabulous treat for all to enjoy. Van and Ryan gamely served up tacos for approximately 700 people at last year’s event and the Grand River Council on Aging is thrilled at their decision to return.

The excitement is building as other groups throw their hats in the ring to compete for the “People’s Choice Award.” Four new Taco Vendors are getting in on the excitement. Joining Burrito Brothers and Devlin’s are groups from the local retirement community; one from the kitchen of Seasons Retirement and the other is the chef at Tranquility Place. Maria’s Pizza, presented by Angie and Doug George and Mercasa’s Restaurant, presented by Tom and Jen Mercante, will also be serving up their favourite taco recipe. This year, our Main Sponsor, Solis Foods will donate all the hard and soft shells for the Taco Vendors to fill.
The participants making and serving the tacos donate their food and their time to this intergenerational, age-friendly festival. By choosing to participate, groups can enjoy a fun day in the Square while promoting their business or restaurant at the same time. The Grand River Council on Aging is thankful for their support.
While munching your tacos, you can browse through “TacoPlace,” our outdoor marketplace. Find a spot to relax with your friends and family while listening to some great tunes, reconnect with people you may not see all the time and support the Grand River Council on Aging, in its mission to promote the voice of elders.
And please remember: The Workshop on a Bus takes place the next day! Seating is limited so to register for this great event, please call the Brant County Health Unit by September 24 at 519.753.4937, Ext.465.
