Wood block is the oldest form of printmaking and predates its sibling, linocut. Panels of wood, often plywood are carved with sharp tools to create an ‘intaglio’ image that is then inked and printed.
This introductory workshop will examine different examples of woodcut prints, techniques and surfaces, with examples. Time will allow the participants to create a small (6 X 6″) block of their own, which they will then print using a press or a hand burnishing technique. Several prints can be created during the session.
