Event Details

Date: Every Thursday, starting October 14, 2021, Time: 2pm-4pm. Cost: FREE

Free Seniors Program at Five Oaks! Join us this Fall for a series of walks around the Five Oaks property. Meet Tanya, Five Oak’s new Settler Partner Program Coordinator, who will be your guide. After our walk we will drink tea and share together.


2:00 pm Meet at the Sacred Fire Circle. Check in, introduce theme.

2:15 pm Begin the walk.

3:30 pm Return to the fire circle for cedar tea and sharing.

4:00 pm Depart

This Thursday October 28 from 2pm-4pm. Do trees talk? Reflections will be shared from Suzanne Simard’s book, Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest. Join us on this easy walk while we will listen to trees and experience the wisdom, they offer us.

This Thursday November 4 from 2:00 – 4:00pm.  Join us as we walk to the intersection of the Grand River and Whiteman’s Creek. Grandmother Renee Thomas Hill will share some teachings about our relationship with water from an indigenous perspective. 

This Thursday November 11 from 2pm-4pm. Join us as we explore the Five Oaks site and hear how Five Oak walks the path of peace.  We will share what peace means to us, while we sip tea by the fire, and conclude with a reading of the children’s storybook “Old Turtle.”

This Thursday November 18th, from 2:00 – 4:00pm.  We will learn about the peoples who first lived here.  We’ll talk about the practice of land acknowledgments and their significance.

This Thursday November 25 from 2pm-4pm, on this final walk, we will pay attention to nature as it prepares itself for the winter season. We will reflect on themes of surrender, dormancy, and hope.
