On Saturday, May 28 at 4:00pm, Arcady is thrilled to present the acclaimed music drama RUTH at the award-winning botanical gardens, Whistling Gardens in Wilsonville. ON. The concert will open with the premiere of “Song of the Sun” by local composer Emma Verdonk (Brantford, ON). This unique outdoor performance will feature soprano Cristina Pisani as Ruth, Michael York as Boaz, and Katie Walshaw as Naomi alongside a diverse cast of Arcady soloists, emerging artists, and youth. Ruth is a moving and dramatic musical story of faith, loyalty, family, and women’s strength. The work was written in 1996 by Arcady’s director, Ronald Beckett of Simcoe, and was adapted from the libretto by Roger Bayley of Brantford. Ruth has been performed internationally with the most recent performance by Belmont University School of Music in Nashville. The 2007 recording of Ruth has gained a wide audience in Europe and Israel.
As a special offer to ticket purchasers, a free pre-concert Zoom chat with Ruth scholar Enid Pottinger will take place on Tues. May 24, 7:00–8:00pm. The composer/director and cast members will also be present.
