Jules – United States, 1 hour 27 minutes PG13
Getting old has reduced the isolated and somewhat befuddled Milton (Ben Kingsley), to the role of an alien in an alienated landscape (small town Boonton, Pennsylvania). Ironically, it takes a “real” lost alien from outer space. Jules (Jade Quon) whose UFO has fortuitously landed in Milton’s azalea bushes in his backyard, to reconnect to spiritually adrift Milton and his two aged sidekicks (Harriet Sansom Harris and Jane Curtin) back to humanity.

The Crime is Mine 1 hr. 42 minutes French film (English sub-titles)
Down on their luck, threatened wiht eviction from their 1930’s Paris flat, what can two young enterprising young room-makes do? A pretty actress light on talent, Madeleine Verdier (Nadia Tereszkiewicz) and a bright new lawyer lacking clients, Pauline Mauleon (Rebecca Marder) come up with a crazy idea that may pay off. Director Francois Ozon’s witty, fast-paced film with its rich stylized Parisian sets pays tribute to Hollywood’s golden age of comedy, to movie favourites like those directed by Ernst Lubitsch and Frank Capra. Don’t miss the fun! Come and see this film and join the “highjinx” to find out if the girls’ plan is foolproof or foolhardy.

What’s Love Got to Do With It? United Kingdom, 2022 English, Urdu, 1hr 48 minutes
Sliding between London and Lahore, love and friendship, tradition and iconoclasm, What’s Love Got To Do With It? is an effervescent romantic comedy that refuses to adhere to easy binaries. Directed by Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth, Bandit Queen) from a smart, worldly screenplay by Jemima Khan, the film is buoyed by an adorable ensemble that includes Lily James (Darkest Hour, Yesterday), Shazad Latif (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), and Academy Award winner Emma Thompson (The Children Act, An Education)

The Miracle Club, United Kingdom, 1 hour 31 minutes, PG 13
Three devout Irish Catholic working-class women, Lily (Maggie Smith), Eileen (Kathy Bates), Dolly (Agnes O’Casey), win a church-sponsored Holy Cross Talent Show. Their prize is a free trip to Lourdes, a pilgrimage site in France, famous for its miraculous healing waters. Chrissie (Laura Linney), the daughter of their mutual friend who has just passed away, accompanies them on their journey. Old resentments and secrets surface, as they struggle to find a miracle to be relieved of the different cross each bears. Is taking the pilgrimage itself, the miracle that can heal old grudges and repair broken relationships? Their chaperone, Father Declan (Mark O’Halloran) points out that sometimes the true miracle is finding the strength to carry on when a miracle doesn’t happen.
In any case, perhaps the biggest miracle for us is the star-studded cast and beautiful cinematography found in this film.

Golda, American, United Kingdom. 1hr 40 minutes
Golda Meir, Israel’s fourth prime minister (Helen Mirren) faced powerful challenges and made tough decisions as Israel fought against Egypt, Syria and Jordan, during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. Helen Mirren’s masterful portrayal of Golda’s sharp intellect and steely resolve illustrate what formidable force the elderly stateswoman brought to any negotiation.
With an effective Middle East peace process still unrealized, this film offers an Israeli perspective on the controversial legacy of a tough but compassionate female leader who persuaded cunning politicians (including Henry Kissinger, played by Live Schreiber) and tough military men to follow through on her ideas. Golda prophetically observed, “You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.”
