Glenhyrst Art Gallery is seeking Artists to submit proposals to create a portrait of Walter Gretzky. The portrait will become the property of The Corporation of the City of Brantford and will be located at the newly dedicated and renamed Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course, Banquet and Learning Academy located at 320 Balmoral Drive in Brantford, Ontario.
Artists will be selected by a partner-led jury through a process involving a written statement of approach, qualifications, and historical documentation. The artist selection process will be managed by Glenhyrst and will follow the procurement processes and rules of the gallery.
Award: $10,000 (including HST, if applicable)
First Submission Deadline: Friday, January 8, 2020 at 5:00 PM (EST)
Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant is a regional art gallery in Brantford, Ontario providing the region with six annual exhibitions, over 35 events held per year, a variety of classes, workshops and camps for both adults and children, and a Permanent Collection with over 600 works.
Glenhyrst is dedicated to engaging our local and regional communities with art and culture. As such, we have been selected by the City of Brantford to facilitate the selection of an artist for the portrait work of Walter Gretzky.
The City owns and operates a municipal golf course located at 320 Balmoral Drive, Brantford, Ontario N3R 7S2, called Northridge Municipal Golf Course. In recognition of Mr. Gretzky’s significant contributions to the City of Brantford, especially Mr. Gretzky’s contributions to youth sports, as well as his frequent visits to Northridge Municipal Golf Course, the City wishes to re-name Northridge Municipal Golf Course to “The Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course, Banquet & Learning Academy”. The dedicated portrait will be prominently displayed in the newly renovated clubhouse.
