The month of October was a busy one for SKIP as our classroom visits have begun and are in full swing! The students and seniors have been getting to know each other by creating Halloween crafts and playing games and music together. We have been able to see first-hand the positive impact SKIP has had on both the students and the seniors and can’t wait to see how the connections grow.

One of SKIP’s Student Ambassadors, a grade six student named Ellora shared a reflection about her visit at the Fox Ridge Care facility saying: “We talked, made friends, asked questions and other really fun things that anyone would love.” Ellora says that she was able to learn a lot about the senior’s routines at Fox Ridge, and she got to know many of the residents by chatting with them and her classmates. Ellora ended her reflection by saying: “I’m excited for the upcoming year of being an ambassador and seeing the residents again. In the future, I will be coming for more and more visits to Fox Ridge.”

This month, we had the opportunity to participate in the City of Brantford’s General Tech fair held at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre. The event was a success and showcased many of the excellent resources we have in our community. We have also been busy preparing for our SKIP into Technology event at Lynden Park Mall, where we invited students from the nearby schools to work with seniors in the community to learn about technology. Seniors brought in their devices for the students to help them learn how to navigate them. This event was a great way to allow the students to help others in the community, and a great opportunity for seniors to introduce themselves to popular technology. We look forward to our second SKIP Into Technology event on November 29th at the Brantford Tourism Centre.

We also had the opportunity this month to attend BScene’s 5th-anniversary event. It was a wonderful evening celebrating the achievements of all who work to make BScene successful. We would like to say congratulations to Jason Freeze and everyone else at BScene for a great 5 years!

This month, SKIP is looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the community to fill three open seats on our board. Join us in our mission to bring generations closer together! Those interested can reach out to us at info@goskip.org to sign up.

If you would like to keep up with SKIP, you can visit our website at goskip.org.
